Prologue
Vivid sunlight welcomed me. The heat is giving my skin a stinging pain. No doubt, I am really here in the Philippines. It's been years and this what feels like summer here.
"Ma'am Bea, the driver who will fetch us up is already here." Manang Sonia said.
"Alright, you and Haisley will go first." I said and smiled.
"Okay, but how about you ma’am?” she asked.
"Hazel will be the one to pick me up. There are reporters waiting for me outside the airport and I don’t want to expose Haisley.” I explained and slightly
crouched down to take a look to Haisley who is now sleeping soundly on Manang’s shoulder. I kissed her forehead before they leave.
I get my phone and dialed Hazel's number.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"I'm already here outside the airport. You know I can't get out of my car, there are too many reporters." she answered.
"Why do they need to be here?" I annoyingly asked the obvious.
"Still asking that Bella Azalea, huh? And you really made a famous architect to fetch you up. We will get too much attention here. So just get out of there so we can leave."
I rolled my eyes. "Okay fine, this airport probably has guards." I said and ended the call.
I wore my shades and started to walk. And I am right. Once I stepped my feet out of the airport, guards are everywhere and so as reporters. It’s not that I am still not used to this, but they are so nagging and irritating sometimes. Even when I was abroad reporters just won't leave me. They keep on bugging me in every events I attended.
"Ms. Harris, are you staying here for good?"
"Are you here for a photo shoot?"
"What can you say about your latest magazine that has been sold out since it was released?"
They asked too many questions and all I can do is to smile just to ignore the questions. And finally, I reached Hazel's car. I immediately opened the door but before I slid inside, one question caught me off guard.
"Are you here to fix your marriage with Mr. Smith?" the reporter in front of me suddenly asked.
Gladly, I put my shades on and they did not see my reaction. How come they knew about that? It was the first time I was asked about this.
"Bea, c'mon!" Hazel shouted and that's when I get back all my senses.
I immediately slid inside and Hazel started to drive away.
"Don't think too much about it." She said.
I removed my shades and looked at her. She surely heard what was being asked to me. "Yeah, I know. I was just shocked and wondering how they knew about it."
"Well, they keep on digging until they get the answers they want."
I just nod. "Anyway, I miss you couz. And I can't wait to see Haisley again."
"You're overreacting, Hazel. We just saw each other last week." I said.
Last week, she visited us in Australia even though she knew that we are about to go home here in the Philippines. She said that she just wanted to unwind because she has many loads these past few months. But she got home first and not allowed to stay longer as she still has her work here.
My phone vibrated. It's mom.
"Mom? Is Manang and Haisley already there?"
"Mamita, is that my mommy?" I smiled after I heard my daughter's voice.
"Yes, Haisley. I will just talk to your mom, okay?" Mommy said.
"Yes Bea and she just woke up. I called because you were the first one she looked for. Anyway, where are you?" she asked.
"We’re near."
"Okay, take care."
After a few minutes, we arrived at our mansion. Hazel was the one who go inside.
"Kuya, kindly get my baggage and put it inside my room." I respectfully commanded.
"Yes po, ma'am."
"Thank you po."
"Haisley! Tita Hazel missed you so much." Hazel said and pinched my daughter’s cheeks.
"Hazel, you're hugging my daughter too much. Look, she can't breathe." I said.
"Mommy!" Haisley shouted. She pulled away from her auntie’s hug and ran towards me. I crouched down so I can carry her.
"How's my baby's sleep?" I asked and kissed her cheek.
"It's fine, mommy." she happily answered.
"Bea, let me have your daughter don’t be such an ungenerous Mom." Hazel butted in. I rolled my eyes at her.
"You bond with your auntie first okay?" I said and she nodded.
"Where's mamita?" I asked before giving her to Hazel.
"Kitchen po."
I tread the way towards the kitchen and saw Mom helping in cooking. I hugged her from behind.
"I missed you, mommy." I said and kissed her cheek.
She was shocked and tightly hugged me. "Oh my god, I missed you too, dear."
"Where's Dad and Kuya Zach?" I asked.
"Your Dad will get home soon, he just had some urgent meeting in the company. And your brother is a morning shift into the hospital but don't worry he'll be here later today." She answered.
"Okay. I will just change my clothes and help you here after."
"No, I'm fine. We’re almost finish. We’ll eat after you changed." she said and I smiled.
I go to my own room and get changed. I missed being here inside my room, after five years. I rested for a while and go down as someone called me that the food is ready. When I’ve reached the dining, they are already sitting and ready to eat. Hazel, mommy, Haisley and just me for today's late lunch.
I took care of Haisley’s food first before we started to eat. Well, Haisley can eat on her own. She's already 4 years old and turning 5 this year.
"Bea, are you sure about your plan?" Mommy asked.
"I am already here mommy, so basically yes. And that was our plan before I left."
"It's just..." she worriedly said and looked at Haisley.
I also turned my gaze to my daughter. I already thought about this a hundred times and this decision will be good for Haisley and I. I held Mom’s hand which is on the table and smiled at her.
"Don't worry, mom. Haisley will understand once she grew up." I said.
"What about him, dear? He still don't know-"
"I won’t take away his rights and I will say it to him at the right time.” I cut her off.
Mommy did not added some more questions and the four of us just talked about some things. Good thing, Haisley really lightened up the atmosphere. Hazel got home after that. While Haisley and I rest for a while because the long flight was very tiring.
I woke up without Haisley by my side and as I looked over my window, it’s already dark. Maybe dad and kuya are downstairs already. I fixed myself before going downstairs. I heard my daughter’s laugh.
"Mommy's already awake." She shouted and pointed at me.
I immediately go to Dad and kissed his cheek.
"I missed you, dad." I said and hugged him.
"I missed you too, anak." he said. I did the same to Kuya.
"I missed you too, Kuya Zach."
"Yeah, I know. Miss you too, bunso. Get off of me now." He said in a tired voice.
I pulled away from him and laughed. Same old him— slightly peevish.
"Are you tired?" I asked because he looks indisposed. He lazily nod and rest his head on the sofa.
"Too many patients." he said. "Good thing, Haisley is here. My tiredness reduced a little bit."
I laughed. "Where is your girlfriend already? Why don’t you marry her so you’ll have your own child?” I teased.
He frowned and did not bother to answer me that’s why I laughed even more.
"C'mon everyone, let's eat." mommy shouted.
Dinner went well and we catches up things we missed while being away together. We barely experience being complete and it’s more delightful now that my daughter is here.
My brother is a successful doctor. My dad is the CEO of our company and mommy is taking care of our other companies. We have a branch in Australia where I became the face or so called model of our company. And that's where my name started to boom after the release of my first magazine. And now that I am here in the Philippines, this is where I continue my work.
