Calista excitement about going to Canada was short lived as she still couldn’t get a ride. How the heck was she going to get there without a car? She needed a plan and she also needed a damn car.She paced up and down in her room as she tried to decide her next move. She was really angry enough to kill someone and that person would definitely be no other person but Felix Fernando. It was almost late at night and people with a reasonable pattern of living were already sleeping at this hour but here she was pacing forth and back in angry steps. She breathed in and out repeatedly and was suddenly hit with a wave of dizziness slumping on the bed behind her, she laid back gently with eyes closed. She was definitely losing her mind or anything that was left of it after weeks of dodging bullets meant to kill her, almost getting blown to pieces by a bomb implanted in her car and then the only person she trusted dumping her in the middle of the fucking road. Damn it she was lucky really lucky. A loud knock sounded on her door and she snapped her eyes open immediately. Who would it be at this hour?? She wondered as she slid out the pistol from behind her and stood up slowly from the bed.

”who is it?” She asked as she got the door.

”Room service Miss,”A tiny rasp voice replied and that was when she remembered that she had requested for dinner a while ago. Hiding the gun under the pillow she went to open the door but still very cautions as her hand was placed on the dagger underneath her jacket. The young lady stood outside with a tray containing two closed dishes and a can of beer as she had requested. She stretched out her hand and took the tray of the lady’s hand and without saying another word she took a step back and shut the door. That was rude she knew but that was best for her security right now. No one was to be trusted. She settled down on the couch and placed the tray in front of the small round table in front of her and without wasting time fell in to it like the hungry lion she was. Soon she was done eating and pushed the tray away her mind back to her present dilemma. She was stranded in this city if she doesn’t get a car soon. She thought as she picked up her phone and dailed her best friend’s number.

”Hello Holly Prescott on the Line, who is this?,”Holly’s voice came through.

”Hey Holly it’s me Calista,”She said glad to hear someone’s voice she knew.

”oh my God, Cal, How have you been and where the hell have you been I have been worried sick,”Holly said all at once her voice sounding really anxious.

“I am fine Hols, but I won’t be for long so I want you to do something really important for me,” Calista said placing a palm on her aching head.

“What is it Cal? What’s going on?,”Holly asked seriously this time her voice sounding really anxious.

“Remember the jewels that was missing in the museum last month,”She asked.

“Yes, the Amonldia jewels that was gifted by ancient Egyptians to the museum twenty years ago, yeah who doesn’t know about it,” Holly said in rapid succession.

“Yes that one,”Calista said dryly

“Was with it? I thought the chief called off the investigation for it,”

“It wasn’t actually called off,”Calista stated and there was a pause on the other end as Holly digested the information.

“Wait a minute, do you mean that investigation on the jewel is still going on?,”Holly asked surprised and Calista could mentally see her sitting up properly.

“Yes, the public calling off of the investigation was to make the thief’s think we are finally off their trail,”Calista explained.

”That means you are working on the investigation’s alone and undercover,”Holly exclaimed.

”Yes, I am but not Alone, let’s say I was working with someone related to the case,”Calista states biting her lips hard to restrain the tears on her eyes.

”who is it?”Holly asked with curiously

“Felix,”

”Wait, are you kidding me,”Holly nearly yelled

“No, I am not he was the only lead on the investigation,”Cal stated glancing out of the window as she heard the rain drops. Damn it was going to be a cold night and she was all alone.

”oh Good heavens Cal, how could you do such a thing. You of all people knows how dangerous Felix Fernando is, why would you take sure a risk,”Holly asked sounding totally concerned for her friend.

”I had to Holly, I need to break this jewel robbery or I am never getting a promotion and you know how badly I need one,”Cal explained trying to make Holly understand and the huge sigh she heard over the phone was enough to tell her that Holly understood really well why she would take such kind of risk with a tagged criminal. Well that was what she thought at first.

”I do understand, so where is he now? Is he there with you?” Holly asked back to her worried tone in a flash.

”No, he is not! The motherfucker dumped me,”

”Excuse me!”

”we were on our way to Mexico, to look for a very popular politician and his gang friends,...”but that was as far as she could go as Holly cut her off.

”You and Felix?” It was more of a confused statement than a question but Calista replied anyway.

”yes, me and Felix were actually a team we were only trying to find out who was involved in the missing jewels when someone hired a couple of hit men to kill us, if Felix hadn’t pulled me out of his car real fast I wouldn’t have been speaking to you right now.

”Wait a minute, Are you okay?”Holly asked worriedly

”Yea, I am fine, now would you listen to me, this will make a great hit for your Newspaper so listen, I can’t be on the phone for to long or I might be tracked,”

”okay, go on,”

”like I said Felix and I were working together to bring down the people we thought were the actual jewel thief’s when we were suddenly caught in the middle of the cross fire and we also found out that the robbery was not the only crime going on , it was just to keep the whole security in California busy while they got away with whatever it is that was going on, we still don’t know about that yet, But on our way to Mexico Felix waited until we were three hours from California before stopping the car right in the middle of the road and said I should go back,” She paused and took a huge gulp of air. “We had a huge fight on the side of the road, and, well....”She paused yet again as she recalled the nasty arguments on her safety when she was the one supposed to be protecting him. “It was really bad, and we splitted,”

”So where are you now?”

”I am in a small town that was just in a few walks from where he stopped me and I fortunately for me I got a tiny room in one old fashioned hotel,”

”so you mean to say he just drove off and left you?”Holly asked with doubts.

”Not really, he came back for me but I refused to get in so he left,”

”Why would you refuse?”

”I am better off with him,Holly. He is getting in my way since I seem distracted by his presence, Felix is a real distraction, and he is a known criminal at that,"

As Calista said this Holly involuntarily thought of Eric the man Calista had almost married because She thought he was a safe and Godly only to find out that he was a chronic cheat and woman beater.

“God, Cal don’t think like that, though I know that he is a wanted criminal but atleast he was kind enough to want your safety, so I do think he is way better than Eric,”Holly blurted out before she could stop herself.

”Ohh please don’t mention Eric’s name it makes me sick,”Calista snorted with a frown.

”I am sorry I didn’t mean to say that,”Holly apologized immediately.

”it’s fine, so what are you saying I should do, I can’t back out of the investigation since I am already neck deep in it, and I also can’t seem to get Felix out of my head,”

”The problem here is that you are inlove with Felix and now you are afraid he is connected to the whole robbery thing, right,”Holly asked

“Your guess is right,”

”Damn this is quite complicated, but I will advice you to keep off Felix and crack this case for your dream promotion,” Holly finally said.

”So you are saying I should throw away my feelings for Felix and do my duty,”She asked after a brief silence.

”Yes exactly,”

”But how can I do that, with his life on the line,”

”oh come off it Cal, I can see what you are trying to do you think he is not involved in the crime and you are trying to protect him,”Holly sniffed sounding peeved.

”Something like that,”

”Anyway I see you have already made up your mind about this all along before you called me, and nothing I say right now would change your mind about your concluded decisions,” Calista stood for a moment and thought it through letting the words sink in. “You are right Holly. I just needed to talk it all out and maybe, if I can just maybe clear my conscience.”
