Haley's POV
"Beep, beep, beep," goes the blaring sound of the alarm clock indicating that it was now time for me to get ready to go to work. I worked at this small diner off the corner of Washington Street and I can honestly say this is the best job I could have ever asked for.
I swing my legs over the side of the bed, slowly sliding off the edge before making my way into the bathroom. I do my normal everyday routine involving showering, changing into a typical outfit consisting of a floral-patterned dress with caramel brown heeled boots to go with it and pinning my hair up into a messy bun.
I quickly grab my purse and keys before running out the house, realizing that I only had 10 minutes to get to work. I quickly hop into my 1970's Chevy Camino that my grandfather had left for me on my 16th birthday. I make my way down Avenue Drive before pulling into the parking lot of the Abbey Lou Diner.
Right as I slip on my apron, I hear the bell ring, letting me know that my first customer was here. I turned around only to find him. Jason Lee. The most well-known businessman in town. He was known for being the handsomest man alive in magazines as well as a womanizer. I was surprised to see him on this side of town since it is the poor side of town.
"Hello. I need a cup of coffee now!" I flinched due to the deep and stern sound of his voice.
After regaining my composure, huffing, I glared at the man who thought it was okay to order people around instead of politely asking.
"Hasn't anyone taught you any manners? You can't just walk in here demanding a coffee without at least saying a simple please." I stated as I poured the coffee into a cup before handing it to him. "Next time ask politely because on this side of town, you need to be respectful."
The way he stared at me, as if I were amusing him sent anger down my spine.
"Well yes ma'am. Next time I will be polite but only if you will let me buy you a cup of coffee and let me get to know you. No women has ever talked back to me before but you did."
Why was I not surprised that this man would offer a request like that? I rolled my eyes before walking away and back to the counter. Throughout the day, Jason stayed in the diner, casually glimpsing at me as I was with other customers. After a few hours, it was time to close. Noticing that Jason was still here, I made my way back to his table.
"You do realize its closing time and you still haven't left yet." His eyes looked into mine as a small smirk appeared on his lips. As if they were glistening, his eyes seemed to sparkle with amusement as he crossed his arms and leaned back against his chair.
"Yes, I do realize the time, but I was waiting for you. You never told me your name and I was serious about my offer on buying you coffee and getting to know you."
I was surprised and taken aback. I honestly did not believe a rich, successful man would want to spend any of his time with a basic nobody. I pondered the idea of giving him the chance to get to know me but my trust in rich strangers known for playing with women's emotions did not appeal to me.
"I'm sorry but I decline your offer. I am not interested in getting played. Now if you will excuse me, I need to close for the night, so I need you out of here." I grab his cup before heading off towards the back of the diner, preparing to close. After finishing everything that needed to be done, I made my way to the front seeing that Jason had left. I grab my purse before locking up the diner.
Making my way towards my car, the sound of thunder rumbles as rain started pouring heavily. I squealed as I ran towards my car, sliding into the drivers seat to avoid getting any wetter than I already was. I turned to start the car but instead of starting it starts to stall. I groan as I keep trying to start the car, having no idea what to do at this point.
I thrust my head back in frustration before hearing a knock on my window. I jumped in surprise seeing that it was Jason standing outside my car in the pouring rain.
"What on earth are you doing here? You scared the crap out of me," I snap as he stared down at me.
"I see you're having car trouble. Let me take you home and I will have someone come and look at your car in the morning once it stops raining. I promise it is just a ride home. I wouldn't want a pretty woman like you staying in your car here all night."
I sigh, seeing how I had no other option than to agree on the ride home. "Okay fine, since I have no other option, I will accept this time." I give a small smile, before running towards his car.
The ride home was quiet, but it was a comfortable quiet. The sound of the rain hitting against the hood of his Bentley was comforting and relaxing, making me realize how tired I was. Making it to my house, I couldn't help but notice that Jason was soaking wet. I knew if he didn't dry off, he would catch a cold so being the nice person that I am, I decided to help.
"Would you like to come inside? Not anything inappropriate but it would be best to get into dry clothes so that you won't get sick." I couldn't help but notice his charming smile and I could see why the girls always fell for it.
"Why I would very much like that. Thank you." He smiled as I led him towards the house.
"The name is Haley by the way." I said before taking him inside, hoping that this wouldn't have been a mistake.
