  KALLIE'S POV

My name is Kalysarnai Quillon, my friends and family call me Kallie, 18 years of age. My dream is to become an author, a successful one. Recently, I have decided to agree with a new project where I have to include the fantasy genre in my romance novel. Those kinds of stories are mostly in demand by readers, and I know myself that it wasn’t the genre I’m best at but it could be a challenge for me to create one.

  "It's not a good idea..."

  "Why not?" I asked.

I am on my way to the cafeteria while talking with my friends - the outgoing brunette Alveera Olsson and the quietest blonde Euthalia Windsor.

"Lately, you told us that in your night sleep, you’ve been bothered by some kind of weird dreams," Vee said.

"I’m just going to create a fictional story."

"She's right, Vee, it's just a fictional story so it’s okay." It's very often for Lia to speak up about what she was thinking.

"Look, I’m really worried about what’s happening to Kallie," Vee continued, “you should be worried too, prayer maiden.”

  Lia smiled innocently.

"If I continue with just writing a romance novel, nothing will happen to my writing career," I said.

"Now you know why you should stop writing," she continued.

I grunt, "Urgh, what should I do then? I was told to write a perfect romantic fantasy that will defeat the series of Twilight, even though there’s no chance for that to happen."

"Wait, what?" Vee suddenly stopped walking right in front of me.

  I frowned at her.

"Why did you accept the project?" Lia asked me calmly.

I remained quiet because I don't know what to tell them. Maybe, because I'm so obsessed with publishing more novels that it made me look like an idiot? I don't know.

"Okay, let me clear everything to you, a’ight?" Vee showed me her hands and started counting using her fingers. "You have no experience falling in love. How will you write a romantic fantasy novel or whatsoever?"

I remained to stare at her based on the last thing she said. She noticed that I was left confused, that's why she called for a backup from Lia.

"Lia, can you second the motion here? I'm trying to convince our dearest friend," Vee told her.

Lia points at herself, "Oh me? What would you like me to back you up with?"

Vee stares at her with disappointment before letting out a sigh of giving up. She pats Lia and smiles at her.

"Be thankful that you are the kind of person who would use a crucifix to sweep me off my feet if I ever get to curse at you for being so innocent."

We all continued walking until we finally reached the university's cafeteria. Just as I thought our conversation would end, I was wrong. Once Vee starts her mouth, there's no pause button nor anything similar to car breaks that will stop her from talking.

"So, tell me. When will you listen to me, Kallie?”

“Ah. She started again,” I commented.

“I told you, book writing don’t get you paid enough even though you’re the one who authored the book!" Vee exclaimed.

"I’m sorry, but this is what I wanted."

"That's right, Vee. We shouldn't force Kallie to do something she doesn't want to. And we should just support her with her decisions," Lia said.

Vee shakes her head, "This is what I don't understand. When it comes to me, Lia, you never back me up."

Lia and I looked at each other and gave each other a smile. Then, we look back at Vee who was just sulking.

"Fine! I won’t talk anymore," she said.

"Aw, don't act like a kid who doesn't get their candy…" I went to sit beside her and tried to cheer her up by hugging her.

"Don't think that hugging me will make me happy," she boasted.

"Wouldn't it?" I raised my eyebrow at her, teasing.

She, later on, changes her facial reaction from disappointed to being flattered. Then, she hugged me in return.

"Our friendship is the sweetest." We both glanced at Lia and she was just watching us with her comforting smile.

Everyone's attention from the cafeteria was caught when four gentlemen who looked like they came from a noble family arrived. It didn't fail to get even the attention of us. It has been two years of my studies here at university and I never let my friends or anyone know that I was attracted to one of the men because it would be suicide.

Vee sighed with satisfaction, “It's really a good thing we still treasure our dignities and not going crazy over the presence of the Kin Kappa.”

Kin Kappa, not a name of a fraternity, but it is the name of a group of four men which means Palm of Hands Brotherhood. They are a year ahead of us and because of that, I wasn't very interested in them. I don't like any attention, especially from men. But, during the welcoming party for the first years, I could not quite imagine that I would personally meet one of them, and that person was Avidus Marinimos.

  Be careful.

His deep voice still lingers in my ears, not until I realize that I'm currently staring at their direction. I saw one of the men suddenly turn to look at me and pair it up with a smirk before whispering to Avidus.

I immediately look away and look at my friends as if nothing happened. That was fucking close, my gosh. I cleared my throat as I pretended to listen continuously to what Vee was saying, but I still couldn't help to look at the Kin Kappa mostly to Avidus, someone seems to tempt me.

"Hey, Kallie!" I glanced at Vee and she was waving her hands in front of my face.

  "Yeah?" I asked her.

  "What are you wandering off?"

  "Nothing-"

"Are you even listening to me?" she asked.

  I nod, "Y-Yeah. Yeah! Totally!"

"Oh yeah? If you are then, what did I just say?" she crossed her arms.

I gulped before looking at Lia and she was just calmly looking at me. I look back at Vee who was still waiting for me with her left eyebrow raised. I suddenly got up from my seat which surprised them.

"I… need to go to the library," I lied.

"All of a sudden?" Vee asked.

I immediately pick up my bag before moving away from the table.

"I'll see you tomorrow. Bye!" I waved my hand at them and hurriedly left the cafeteria.

I ran out of the university and instead of really going to the library, I decided to go straight home. I live alone in a plain old apartment, which most of the university students call the Commoner's Home. Yes, almost everyone in university was at least one rank lower than the nobility.

Lia's rank is Gold which means she's in the second rank of wealth status. Vee is in the Emerald rank which is the third rank, and I'm in the Marmalade rank, the fourth one. The Scarlet rank is considered to be the poorest one, students are not allowed to enter the university premises. The Platinum will always be given to the students that came from a noble family and that includes the Kin Kappa.

I safely arrived at my house and as soon as I took off my shoes, I went to lay down on the bed. Sometimes, I forget to change my clothes and just go straight to falling asleep. Dealing with different students with different life statuses is exhausting more than studying. I swear.

  Buzz. Buzz.

My attention was caught with the sudden vibration coming from my pocket. I took out my phone and answered the call without even looking at the caller.

"I'm already tired, Vee. Just spare me a lecture-"

"Good day, student no. 1140, Kalysarnai Quillon. This call is coming from the university's student body and we are informing you about the organized birthday celebration of one of the members from Kin Kappa, Mr. Avidus Marinimos."

"What am I supposed to do with that announcement?" I asked straightforwardly.

"All of the female students from the university are required to join the trial performance for Mr. Avidus Marinimos."

  "So?"

"It means you are also required to join the trial performance for Mr. Avidus Marinimos."

"And what kind of performance are you talking about?" I continued asking.

  "Mr. Avidus Marinim-"

"Can you please stop saying his complete name? I know who the hell we are talking about. It's really irritating to hear, I'm sorry." I couldn't avoid but cut her off from speaking.

"The birthday celebrant wishes to have a very beautiful piano performance coming from his chosen performer, and that performer will be brought to his mansion to perform a piano music piece for his guests."

I sighed in frustration, "...why can't he just have a plain and peaceful birthday celebration?"

"Would you like me to ask him that question for you?"

"Ahh!! No! No, you don't have to!" I panicked.

"Then, that would be all. Thank you for answering the call, goodbye!" The caller finally hung up.

I couldn't help but feel stressed because of this wealthy people thing. It's like once they command someone to do something for them, it needs to be done immediately. No ifs and buts.
