Chapter-1
ALEXIS'S POV
'Running. That's what I was doing for the past thirty minutes. I didn't even know if I was running in the right direction or was just running towards my death. Everywhere I was looking was nothing but darkness. It was a no-moon night. The street lights that used to light the area were also not working today.
I had never thought that a day like this would come into my life when I would say this. I was scared. I was beyond scared for my life, for surrounding people, and more than that, my unborn daughter.
The more I was running, the more it looked like some kind of dark energy was chasing me. The energy chasing me felt dark, creepy, and plain terrifying. I knew what it was.
This wasn't happening for the first time. An occurrence like this had been happening for quite some time, but I had never thought it would become so grave and disastrous that I would have to run from my house to save my life.
It all began that one night. The night when my husband and I bought this apartment because it was near our offices. It was well-decorated and affordable. We hadn't thought about anything else when we were moving.
Everything went well for three nights, until I started feeling a creepy gaze following me wherever I would go. At first, I thought it was just me being paranoid. I had been bullied and tortured all my life, so it was normal for me to feel like someone was watching my every move. I have suffered this feeling for years, but only after a few days passed did I finally understand what was happening.
It wasn't just my wishful thinking or paranoid behavior. I was actually being followed, and not by a person, but by dark energy.
The random falling of things behind me and the lurking shadows in the dark were signals I shouldn't have missed.
However, it was too late now. The only thing I need to care about right now is surviving the night.
Seeing the mall in front of me, I breathed a sigh of relief before running towards the supermarket on the ground floor.
Standing in front of it, I waited for the gate to open before rushing inside. I heaved a sigh of relief as soon as I found a man.
"Hey, I.. um… can I get some iced water? Where can I buy it from?" I asked, my throat feeling choked because of all the running.
Hearing a smashing sound from behind me, I jerked my head towards the doors, looking behind for the first time. I gulped before sighing when I saw no one standing there.
"Hey, can I -" Before I could ask again, the boy pointed in the direction of the refrigerator, and I thanked him before going to the farthest corner where the refrigerator was.
Taking a cold drink and burning my throat after running so heavily would be a terrible choice, right? I have to do something to stall some time here. I can't just drink water and leave. What if that spirit who was following me earlier stalks me again? No, I'll have to think of a way.
He won't come here since this is a mall, right? They don't come to crowded places. But why is this supermarket so vacant? It was only eight when I entered my apartment and felt the spirit.
Could it be that I made a -? I paused before closing the refrigerator door with a bang, widening my eyes as my heartbeat started to fasten when I saw the guy on the counter standing right behind me.
"Damn, you scared me," I said before turning around with a relieving smile.
"Should we go to the counter? For billing?" I said when he didn't look up.
"Hey, I am talking to you. Should we -" The rest of the words stuck in my throat when the boy suddenly lifted his hand and growled at me.
Seeing his teeth dripping blood and his red blazing eyes, I felt my mind going blank for a second before I screamed and pushed him away.
The evil spirit must've consumed his soul.
Running towards the doors of the supermarket, I screamed in frustration when it didn't budge.
Come on. Open, damn it!
There has to be some way to get out of here. I thought and was about to think about breaking the door when I saw that boy running awkwardly at me with his hands twisted at weird angles.
Throwing the chair at him to stall for some time, I went towards the storeroom of the supermarket before closing the door and sitting with my body supported on it so that he couldn't push it open.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
I closed my eyes in fear as I brought my knees closer to my chest.
“N-nn-oo, please, don't come inside. Please, let my baby live,” I prayed as fear gnawed at my chest.
Why is this happening to me, god? What am I supposed to do if I don't get out of here in time? What about my unborn child? I thought.
Clink. Clinnkkk. Clinkk… I heard, making me gulp.
Wait. What is that sound?
I lifted my head to look ahead when I noticed some weird smoke-like thing coming out from the bottom of the refrigerator in front of me.
Bang! Bang! Bang! The boy outside continued to bang the door. However, my gaze was fixed in front of me.
Feeling my body trembling with what was going to happen next. I bit my lips before clawing at my skin to calm my mind and distract me.
Creakkkkk...
The sound echoed in the storeroom as the sound of the door banging suddenly stopped, making it deafeningly quiet.
I noticed how the door of the refrigerator was opening slowly.
"Please, god, save me. Save me, please," I prayed to God before stopping altogether when I saw a white hand coming out of it.
"Did you really think you could get away with it?" I heard a blood-curdling whisper in my ears, making me whimper as I fell to my side. I saw how a head with long hair came out of the refrigerator, followed by another hand, and it felt like all the blood drained from my head as it went blank.
It was a woman. This was the first time I was seeing her.
With my teeth chattering with fear, I squinted my brows as I tried to look at the face of the woman when she suddenly lifted her head. With long cuts on her pale skin that were bleeding profusely with white blazing eyes, she smirked a bit before walking towards me on her four limbs.
As I backed away from her, trying to get as far as possible, I felt my heart stop when she ran towards me before jumping on top of me.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!'
"Ahhhhhhhh!"
"Ahhhhhhhh"
"Woahhhhhh" I shouted when I heard two collective screams.
"What the hell is happening here?" I asked, turning on the lights of the lamp.
"Mom, daddy screamed first. And he grabbed my leg out of nowhere! He scared me, mommy. He is bad," My little daughter said with a wronged look, and I looked at Sebastian disappointingly.
"Damn, I got scared, okay? Can you blame me?" He said to me before looking at Emy.
"Miss Emerald Rosaline, did you just rat out your daddy?" Sebastian said before sitting beside me, and I sighed.
“But you weren’t in the room earlier. You deliberately came here to scare us. Mommy, daddy is the culprit,” Emy said, and I sighed before looking at Sebastian, who looked at me with a helpless expression.
"Seriously, sunshine? Are you sure you should tell your daughter this kind of story? She is not even four years old. And you, Emy. Don’t you feel scared at night?" Sebastian said, and I sighed.
"Well, can you blame me? It's your daughter who likes to hear spooky stories. Every time I pick up a sweet romantic story or children's story, she just puffs her cheeks in annoyance," I said.
"Hmm, reminds me of someone I know too well," He commented, and I rolled my eyes at him.
"Sweetheart, let's go to bed now. Enough with the good night stories. I told you three stories back to back. It's way past your sleep time," I said to Emy before kissing her forehead, and she smiled at me.
"I love you, Mumma," She said, and I chuckled.
"Is daddy teaching you how to show love to me?" I asked, and she shook her head.
"Do you not like it? But you like it when daddy does that. Do you hate me?" She asked with a pout, and I chuckled.
"I would never hate my baby. Besides, I like to hear it from Emy more than daddy. Daddy is boring, no? My Emy is way more fun," I said, and she flared her tongue at Sebastian, who scowled at her.
"You should just give up, daddy. Mumma will always love me more than you," She said, and Sebastian rolled his eyes before kissing her cheeks.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it. This mother-daughter pair is going to be the death of me," He said before patting her head.
“Let’s go,” Sebastian said before holding my hand.
"So, were you terrified just now? That scream looked genuine," I asked as soon as we got out of our daughter’s room, and Sebastian looked at me before smirking and picking me in his arms, making me giggle.
"Well, that scream was indeed genuine, and now I am going to make you scream for making me scream like that," He said before throwing me on our bed.
Placing his mouth on my stomach, he made a growling sound, making me chuckle as it tickled me.
"Sebastian, stop. I have college tomorrow," I said, and he suddenly stopped before looking me in the eye as he came over me.
"Sunshine, are you going to be okay? You completed your Bachelorette degree at home, didn't you? Do you really have to go to college?" He asked me, and I kissed his lips before nodding.
"Seb, you have been asking me this question for a month. It's been a month since I joined college, yet you ask me this every night. I have to go to college," I said, and he nuzzled his face in the crook of my neck.
"Well, that's because I miss you here," He said, and I sighed when he nibbled the skin above my mark, making me clear my throat a little as I started to feel a bit jittery.
"You are going to wear that pendant that hides your smell. I am not taking no for an answer," Sebastian said, and I hummed.
"Yes, daddy. I wear that pendant daily." I said, and he growled slowly, making me chuckle.
“Now, sleep. You have an important meeting tomorrow, and I need to write something,” I said before kissing his lips and exiting the room to go towards my study room.
‘Sometimes life throws you into a situation where everything right seems wrong, and everything wrong seems right. In a situation when you are forced to make decisions by your mind when you know your heart is clearly correct. It is a spur-of-the-moment most of the time, but it somehow became a loop for me. A never-ending loop started with my birth and will probably end with my death. However, I was a born survivor, and no matter what comes my way, I shall face it and survive through it. Because that’s what life is, and that’s what my parents would’ve wanted for me.’
After closing my book with my last words, I threw my phone on the bed before wiping the tears off my eyes and closing them to relax as they felt too related to me.
