Her red hair sways as she runs through the castle corridor. Silent tears streak from her blue-green eyes. I long to run to her, to hold her, but it is forbidden. I am a servant of the King.

"Sir Lucien," Leonard, the King's Courier addresses me. "You are called forth to present yourself to the King, immediately." I watch the snobbing turn of his nose as he quickly saunters away in his red tunic. His brown hair sways like he really is living in the clouds. It makes me sick. With a sigh, I trail the Courier, a lump rising in my throat as I walk toward the throne room.

I push open the heavy oak doors with a grunt as I enter the throne room. My eyes travel to the beautiful marble pillars that accentuate the high cathedral-like ceiling. My shoes click against the white-marble floor as I present myself to King Andrew.

He regards me with interest in his blue eyes as he sits up from his slouched position. I quickly look down and bow. "You requested my presence, my King?" I inquire humbly. He nods in recognition.

"Yes I have. And as I've sent my servants away, you can gather that this is a matter of utmost importance." he says, his velvet-like voice flowing through the room. I nod, having noticed the absence of his majesty's lackeys.

"How can I be of assistance?" I ask. The King only smiles, before rising and standing before me. "My daughter, being a fair damsel, is being sent away in isolation, where she will be safe from spies that have made her a target. Her safety is of utmost importance." he says. "That being said, it is no secret to me that you are the last of your kind. I find you useful to this task."

"What is that, your majesty?" I ask, but I already know what the answer will be.

"You are hearby ordered as the King's servant, to accompany Princess Samara, and protect her life and virtue at all costs." I only bow, an acceptance of the mission. "I will do so, your majesty. Is there anything I should be warned of?"

"You are to remain in dragon form in the presence of the princess. You are to act as her silent servant, and will remember that you are only a servant. This is your only tasks." the King finishes. "I will send for your things. You will be leaving by nightfall. That will be all." he says, regarding me with a dismissive wave of his hand. I bow, giving a quick "Yes, your majesty," before turning on my heel. Just as I reach the door, the King's voice booms from his throne. "Lucien," he says. I turn and look into his eyes. A small glint of authority passes over them.

"You will do well to not fail this mission."

And with a "yes, your majesty," I leave the throne room, on my way to start my mission.
