Adina’s POV
I sat in the back seat of my black sedan car as the driver drove and my personal assistant gave me the reports for today but I wasn't really much attention unlike the normal me. I looked out the wound up window.
“ You have a press conference to attend later on in the day,” she said.
“ But now I don't feel like going anymore,” I said shifting my attention from whatever I was looking at to her. I took off my sunshades and stared at her.
“ But everything is already set. I mean, everyone is waiting for you to give this press conference,” she didn't want me to miss it. She was never this resistant.
“ Are you making it mandatory for me to attend?” I scoffed as I put on my shades once more.
“ No, ma'am. I could never,” she bent her head apologetically.
“ Have you heard of the saying; ‘ Leave when the ovation is loudest ’ ?” I questioned her with a smirk on my lips.
“ Yes ma. I should have known that you want your presence rare and sacred, unexpected and unpredictable. I'll cancel it now,” she immediately knew what I wanted. I liked her because of that, I didn't need to explain anything clearly before she got the picture.
“ Ma'am, we're here,” the driver announced as the car came to a halt in front of my company. A guard from outside opened the door for me to get down, which I did. This company was a proof that my blood, sweat and tears were all worth it. I had gotten here despite the odds and I wasn't about to let it go.
I walked into the company with my Leah, my personal assistant beside me and my bodyguards following us.
“ We're going to have an early morning meeting with the sales department. Send out a notice to them,” I instructed.
“ Yes ma. On it,” she nodded. As I passed, workers around all aligned and arranged themselves, some whispering and gossiping others standing in fear. To them, I was no less than the devil and I wasn't in the least way bothered. I sort of liked the fear they felt in my presence, it's a feels a bit deifying.
I stood in front of the VIP elevator and getting inside, Leah pressed the button while I stood there with my phone in my hands.
“ I've scheduled the meeting, CEO Adina,” Leah reported and I replied with a brief nod. Getting to the room where the emergency meeting was to be held, I watched as the workers scurried around trying to make everything to my liking.
“ Let's start,” I ordered sitting down on the office chair in front of the long desk with my legs crossed. I paid attention to the charts and the sales report, the increment and what we could do to boost sales.
“ So in summary, you think we should try creating a new product line soon?” I raised my brows as I flipped through the booklet that was placed in front of me.
“ Y-yes,” the person in charge of the presentation stuttered as everywhere fell quiet, the air filled with nervousness.
“ Fine. Send me everything in a file so I'll approve of it with in next board of directors meeting,” I accepted. It was actually a good idea and I could never close my ears to anything profitable.
“ I'm glad you like it, ma,” she seemed relieved and I simply nodded.
“ But there's something I noticed,” I said placing the booklet on the table. I could literally hear their heart beats pounding hard against their chest.
“ Is there a problem with the presentation? We can always revise it to suit you taste,” she attorned.
“ No, the presentation is fine. I just noticed that a worker from your department didn't show up when I obviously called for a meeting,” I tapped my fingers impatiently on the table.
“ About that, Mrs. Smith did come to work in time but got a sudden call from her son's school and had to leave,” the manager of the department spoke up. “ She left a little bit before you announced a meeting, ma'am,” he emphasized.
“ Alright... Tell her to meet me in my office once she's back,” I said before getting up and walking out of the room, Leah followed behind.

A knock came on my door as I sat behind my computer, my attention fully on what I was doing.
“ Come in,” I said in my usual calm and rigid tone. A lady well in her thirties walked in, bowing her head frequently as she greeted. I could see her hands fidgeting. “ Have a seat.”
“ Thank you, ma,” she said taking a seat.
“ I noticed that you weren't present for the meeting,” I reclined on my chair with my reading glasses still on.
“ Yes, ma'am. I came to work early and everything was going as it should but I got a call from my son's school and they told me that he got hit by a car,” she stopped talking as she tried to hold back her tears. “ I didn't expect this to happen,” she ended her explanation as tears escaped her eyes.
“ No one ever expects an accident, if we did, it wouldn't be an accident anymore,” I said my face as emotionless as it had always been.
“ I'm just glad he's fine,” she cried.
“ I'm happy he is too,” I handed her a tissue.
“ Thank you,” she said taking it gratefully from my hand.
“ No need to thank me, you're going to need it more than you think,” she raised her head to look at me and her lips parted like she was going to say something. “ That's because you're fired,” I completed, looking her in the eye. Her eyes widened from shock.
“ Ma'am? I really am telling the truth,” she pleaded. “ My son is in a critical condition and there's no way I would leave work if it wasn't this important, please forgive me just this once,” she got on her knees.
“ There's no need to beg me, once I've made up my mind, it's made up,” I stated.
“ I really need this job. I and my family need this job to survive,” she pleaded as she cried.
“ Would you rather I drag you out or you save yourself the shame and walk out on your on?” I gave her options to pick from. Hesitantly but having no other choice, she got to her feet and left in tears.
“ Ma'am, is there anything you'd want me to do?” Leah who had been beside me asked.
“ No, not yet,” I answered. My phone beeped, it was a text.
‘ Babe, are you free right now? Or would you be free tonight? Let's go out. I miss you,’ it was Zack with his cheesy love messages. A small smile creeped up my face.
‘ Tonight will be just right,’ I texted back. Zack was the only person I loved other than myself of course.
“ Cancel my appointments for tonight, I'm going on a date,” I told Leah.
