Emelia
With my head raised to the sky, I watched the clouds drifting to each other, the blue and white pairing together to form shapes I racked my brain to think of. This shape definitely looks like a heart, love. Does it mean I'm going to find love here in San Rosta.
"Come on Emelia, that's a superstition bullshit." I chided myself. I ran my hands through my hair, sucking on my lower lips as I inhaled the air of San Rosta.
Moving down to San Rosta without letting Caleb know I was coming was absolutely wrong, but letting him know would have resulted in him warning me not to come. I sank my teeth into my lips drawing out blood.
Caleb will be so mad at me, for years now he has been stopping me from moving down to San Rosta. He is going to erupt like a brimming volcano when he sees me. And I'm going to watch is nose flare up in anger, my favorite part is when it turns red like that of Rudolph the red nose reindeer. I hummed to the song, grinning widely.
I dragged my box on the floor as I walked towards a restaurant that was opposite me. I was really hungry. I have eight dollars left with me, I hope it will at least be enough to get a burger, coupled with fries and a can of Pepsi.
I stepped into the restaurant, cool air from the air conditioner swept my brunette hair over my face, blocking my view. I immediately dropped my box, to tuck my hair behind my ear. I could feel stares at the back of my head as I walked directly to the counter to order my burger.
Tall stools with tables were placed orderly in the restaurant. I could see two couples in a corner, the man was quite nervous. I foresee a break up. He was probably about to break up with his girlfriend. The restaurant looked too expensive for a poor girl like me, it was too late to turn back right now.
"What do you want Miss?" a tall woman with a White Apron hanged around her neck asked. Her blue eyes were striking and her lips were of a cherry colour.
"You can have your seat right there, I will be there with you shortly." She added, scribbling something hurriedy on her note pad before trying to walk away.
"I will be leaving soon, I just need a burger coupled with some fries." I rushed out before she could take her leave. The food they sell here looked like foods made for the royal lineage.
I was seriously kind of nervous, I began to mentally caution myself there was nothing bad in ordering a burger in this elite restaurant, even though a huge part of me regretted stepping in. I suddenly wished I had magic like, this is the type of situation where one wishes to have teleportation powers.
She paused, eyeing me from head to toe. That was simply rude, I know I wasn't well dressed. A pair of leggings and a peplum top was just a simple casual wear. I know that look, I looked out of place, I get it. But why make it so obvious.
"Okay, a burger. Give me a minute," she replied, I didn't like the vibe that was coming from her. I hate it when people look down at me, ordering a burger and fries in an expensive restaurant like this makes me feel very less of myself.
"How much is it?" I asked. Biting my lips again. It would have been stupid of me not to ask, waiting for the bills was simply out of it. I didn't even know how things worked around here. Maybe I should have asked for a menu first, but that would have been worst.
"Ten dollars without fries..." She replied.
I almost bit on my tongue, was she kidding me. Will the burger give me magic or add more to my beauty for it to be that expensive. I get it, this was an expensive restaurant but what!
"Wait!" I cut her off, "Not to worry, I will take my leave right now." I added, I was short of cash. This was really embarrassing, as if that was not enough. The worms in my stomach began to churn.
The scrowl on the ladies face was really more noticeable.
"Security!" She suddenly yelled, catching me off guard.
"What is the matter?" I asked in alarm, ignoring the look I was getting from other customers in the restaurant, everyone seems to have stopped eating and their attention was now directed to me. Well, I've always heard San Rosta was like this.
Two men in a blue and white uniform, stepped in with batons in their hands.
"Get this beggar out of here," the lady yelled again.
I shut my eyes tightly, hoping the floor would just open and swallow me. I have never felt this embarrassed in my life.
Whispers followed, I grabbed onto my box tightly as I began to walk out before those men got to me.
I couldn't maintain a look with anyone as I walked out, I was too embarrassed. I was hungry and I also had to let my brother, Caleb know I was in town before it gets dark. I was hoping to use the restaurant's phone if possible, but now all hope has been cut short.
I breathed in the fresh air as I stepped out of that hell hole, the only thing I can do now is to follow the address scribbled in my notepad. I began to ask for directions from only those who were wearing a smile.
***
It took me hours before I could finally locate my brother's house. Not everyone on the road was willing to give directions to a stranger like me.
Caleb's house was smaller than I imagined. It wasn't even what I was expecting. Now I undersand the look I got from those who helped out. A trailer house was the least I was expecting. The trailer was old and rusted, similar looking trailers were parked in the surroundings.
I could see expensive looking bikes, about four of them were parked in front of Caleb's trailer. The tyre rims and body were gleaming, the bikes looked very expensive and out of place in this part of the world.
A lady came out of one of the trailers opposite Caleb's, she began to wave me off immediately she sighted me. I ignored her, grabbing hold of my box as I stepped into Caleb's trailer without knocking.
Three pairs of eyes met with mine immediately I stepped in. I blinked my eyes repeatedly. Caleb was held to the wall by two men in leather jackets and black denim jeans, they had black gloves on their hands. Another man in leather jacket was sitting on one of Caleb's worn out sofa, with a gun in his hands which he swirled effortlessly.
The danger alarm kept ringing in my head. Trust me I should have been screaming but I was screaming on the inside. My heart was beating sporadically, it was ready to hurl itself out of my chest.
"Look at what we have here, it's a f*cking lady." A deep baritone voice came from behind me. I immediately looked back, I didn't notice him when I stepped in, my mind was too occupied. Another man was resting against the wall close to the entrance. Four brutal looking men, they looked scary and dangerous. A snaring wolf baring his teeth was inscribed on their jackets, danger eluded from them.
I couldn't help but wonder who the hell this people were. This man was one word hot. Like those drop dead gorgeous models in magazine.
The leather jacket he was wearing fitted his body to perfection. He was muscular, fit and sturdy with not an ounce of fat on him. He must have been really working out a lot. His black hair were in a bang, some strands stopped at his forehead while few others stopped at the bridge of his nose. It made him look sexy, and his lips jutted out, all swollen as if they spent the night being sucked on. He suddenly licked his lips, wetting it with moisture. Those lips looked damn kissable.
His stare was a stern one, like he was looking into my soul and was angry of what he saw. The aura around him was a frightening one. I felt like a prey who just got captured by an hunter. I could see inks peeping out of his neck, of course he must be covered in tattoos. I knew I just walked into a danger zone.
