The night was dark and silent as the moon was hidden in the sky.

" You are to attack the palace once it's midnight. Remember, you must make no mistakes. Make sure that you subdue all the guards. I will take down the king myself." Okenna instructed his guards.

King Chibuike could be seen in his chambers with his beautiful wife, Ebubechi discussing.

, our daughter Adaeze is growing up quickly. Very soon the elders will ask you to marry another woman since I'm unable to give you a son." Queen Ebubechi said sounding very worried.

, you worry over nothing. I have told you that even if I marry another wife, you will still remain the love of my life. Moreover, you just told me that you are pregnant. Who knows? It might be a boy." King Chibuike said assuredly.

" Hmmm! I know you are just trying to make me feel better. But what will happen if this baby turns out to be a girl?" Queen Ebubechi sighed and asked.

" Let's forget about that for now. God knows best. " King Chibuike said dismissively.

" Daddy, mummy! Please let's leave this place now!" Adaeze screamed as she banged on the door to the king's chambers.

" Hey! Go to bed it's late. Stop disturbing your parents." One of the guards shouted at Adaeze as he grabbed her trying to take her away from the door.

" Leave me alone!" Adaeze screamed at him and the guard immediately let go of her as he felt like he was being electrocuted.

Unknown to anyone, Adaeze was born with supernatural powers.

Though Adaeze was unaware of it, she knew that there was an impending danger and that was why she was calling her parents.

Hearing the noise outside, king Chibuike and his wife, Ebubechi came out.

" Adaeze, what is the matter? Why are you out of your chambers by this time of the night? Go to bed now, it's almost midnight. Whatever it is we will talk about it tomorrow." King Chibuike said trying to get her to bed.

" No, father. Please let's leave this place now. I sense danger looming." The five years old Adaeze said with tears running down her face.

" Adaeze, listen to your father. Just go to bed." Queen Ebubechi said sounding persuasive.

Amidst her protest, queen Ebubechi carried Adaeze all the way to her chambers as the guards were scared to do so having seen what had happened to their colleague.

" I'm sure you are hallucinating again. I have told you that they are not real." Queen Ebubechi said to Adaeze immediately after they got to her chambers.

Adaeze was confused. But she heard a voice telling her to tell her parents to leave the palace immediately. That danger was looming over them.

May she was hallucinating. Adaeze thought to herself as she lay on her bed with her eyes closed even though she was far from falling asleep.

Queen Ebubechi sighed softly as she saw Adaeze sleeping. She silently made her way out of the room

" How is she? Do I need to call the physician?" King Chibuike asked as soon as queen Ebubechi returned to his chambers.

" She is fine now. She is already asleep before I left her room." Queen Ebubechi said.

" But don't you think we should take her to the physician? These hallucinations are becoming too much." Queen Ebubechi added worriedly.

" We will do that tomorrow. First thing in the morning, I will send Ike to fetch the physician." King Chibuike promised.

King Chibuike and his wife, Ebubechi retired to bed after discussing some important things.

A loud blast of sound rang through the silent night. The palace was under attack!

Due to the fact that the king and queen slept late, they did not hear the sound that was indicating that the palace was under attack.

Okenna and his men had already subdued the guards. Okenna marched straight to the king's chambers.

King Chibuike and his wife, Ebubechi were sleeping soundly in bed.

" Stupid brother! Look at how you will die like a chicken in my hands. I begged you to give me the plant so that I will be king since I'm older than you. But you refused. Now I'm back for what is rightfully mine. Say hello to dad when you get there!" Okenna said with venom

" Please spare me, you can have the throne, the land everything but please don't kill me." King Chibuike said with trembling lips.

" Hahahaha! That was then not now. I will kill you, your wife, and that useless daughter of yours." Okenna spat with so much venom.

Before king Chibuike could say a word, a sword was pierced into his chest.

! You..." Queen Ebubechi screamed but was cut off when another sword was thrust into her stomach.

He smiled with satisfaction. He was going to be the next king at last. He turned around and saw Adaeze. He smirked at her.

" Father!! Mother!!" Adaeze screamed as she witnessed the murder of her parents. Before her, were her parents' lifeless bodies in the pool of their own blood.

She had left a room, some minutes after the alert of attack was sounded.

So the voice was right when it told her that there was danger looming, that she and her parents should leave the palace immediately.

She wished her parents had listened to her. At least they would have been alive. She thought as tears streamed down her face.

" You are next." Okenna said with venom and made to strike her with his sword but he felt a force holding him back. He was perplexed

After trying thrice but encountered the same thing, he gave up.
