Chapter one

Cara Lancelot stared blindly at the images on the television. She had a lot on her mind that she forgot it was time to take her drugs. Maybe she doesn't need it. All she felt at that moment was dying. If only dying was easy, she would have willingly accepted it but even dying came with a kind of suffering she wanted to avoid.

To Cara, there was never going to be light at the end of her tunnel. Maybe her tunnel has been blocked by only God knows.

The sounds of the phone jerked her out of her thoughts but she desperately didn't want to walk out. Maybe she would find solace in her thoughts. Well, maybe not. Nothing seemed to work out.

"Hello," Cara said into the receiver, unconscious of who the speaker was.

"Is this Cara Lancelot?"

Cara blinked once, then twice before she replied, "Yes, who is this?"

"Your dad is in the hospital right now. He collapsed while working".

Cara felt her breathing stop for a moment. She barely heard the name of the hospital before she jumped up, forgetting herself for the umpteenth time that day. She still hadn't taken her drugs.

She rushed into the truck she called a car. At least, it helped her avoid the issues with finding money to get a cab always. Her dad owned the truck and it had been the number one thing she had been grateful for. For example, if it wasn't for the truck, Cara might not be able to go to the hospital because she doesn't even have the money for transport.

Cara jumped out of the car and raced inside the hospital, forgetting to park the car properly. Her dad was the only thing she had left, the only thing she's afraid of losing. She lost her mother and her siblings in a car accident. The accident gave her a piece of her own in a different way. Cara couldn't stop fidgeting. She suffered from severe depression and mental illness. She signed up for classes and even spent months in the hospital but nothing worked.

Lately, she had decided not to tell her father what had been going on with her. Her dad also had shares in the accident and has been sick since then.

He had high blood pressure instantly. After some months, the doctors discovered he's diabetes. It hasn't been easy paying the bills. Yet, Cara still doesn't want her father to die.

Cara Lancelot is a twenty-eight years old lady. Fair and attractive in her way. Well, she studied performing courses and had a great talent for acting.

"My dad!" She screamed at no one in particular. Everyone at the hospital already recognized Cara as it was the hospital she and her dad have always visited all their entire life.

The security man rushed in, breathing heavily. You will be sure he had been trying to keep up the nonchalant attitude of Cara but had been failing. Seemed it wasn't the first time Cara would leave the car on the drive. She would always do something like that whenever she's worried, sad, and absent-minded," Madam, you didn't park the car!"

Cara turned to look at him, as if she didn't hear him the first time, "Do whatever you want with it then," she said and rushed into her father's ward.

The doctors were currently attending to him. So, Cara was told to stay outside.

What would become Cara if something bad happened to her dad? Cara doesn't want to think of it. She knew she would lose everything.

Her dad was the only one she looked up to now.

After some hours that seemed like an eternity, the doctors walked out. Cara rushed to them, unable to hide the feeling coursing through her. She hated to admit to the fact that she anticipated bad results but she doesn't want to hear it, maybe not yet.

"Your dad is fine for now but lots of things came up in the test earlier. Your dad has diabetes and his blood pressure has gone higher. Asides from this, he's an ulcer patient too".

Cara felt the world swept off her. She knew what would come out next, her heart went up in anticipation and she forgot to breathe in.

"Your dad needs some surgeries. To do this, we need you to pay the amount of fifty thousand dollars. Then you can pay the rest as we continue".

The blood dried off Cara's face, she couldn't stop the tears this time as they came rushing out of her face as if they've been hiding them for a while. She doesn't think she still has them in. She thought she exhausted them all these years.

Seems like troubles aren't fed up with her.

Troubles always go wherever she goes.

How would she handle her life?

How would she get fifty thousand dollars?

She doesn't even have ten thousand dollars.

Cara has written applications to all the companies she has ever known and none needed a vacancy.

So, she doesn't have a job.

The per time shift job at the restaurant next to her house fetched her the little that he and her dad used to stop themselves from dying.

Where would she go from there?
