Chapter

Seoul is a bright place, but it is nothing but darkness for her, and she loathes every bit of her life. Jang Eunjoo tries every day not to think about that tragic night on September 10th, 2008—-it keeps haunting her every night. Since Eunjoo bought her old home—--her parents and older brother’s faint screams echoed through the corridors. She hides all of the pain she feels inside——smiling through the pain. But she wasn't always like this. In middle school, Jang Eunjoo was known to speak her mind, and no one dared to mess with her. However, everything changed when she was fourteen——she lost the people who were very important to her.

The image of her family lying cold on the floor, surrounded by blood—--and her older brother Jang Kangmin's cold eyes staring at her. It haunted her because she couldn’t do anything to save them or join them; “Why do I have to be alive?” Eunjoo constantly asks herself. The answer to that question always seems to be locked somewhere in an abandoned warehouse, unable to find its way to her mouth.

After the tragic incident, her friends Jiae, Nayoung, and Dalrae noticed how distant Eunjoo became and stopped spending time with them. It wasn’t like her friends and classmates weren’t aware of the loss of her family because it was all over the news. Eunjoo’s father, Jang Jeongnam, runs the biggest company in Seoul, but her father has a gambling addiction. Jeongnam continued to gamble on the companies’ wealth until he owed money to him Kim Dongyul, a wicked and arrogant mafia leader who loved nothing more than torturing people.

Jeongnam borrowed a loan of three hundred million South Korean won, and he could not pay the total amount because his company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. So Jeongnam hid the truth from his wife, Bae Gyunghui, and his children because he didn’t want them to suffer from his mistake. But the thing Jeongnam had long wanted to avoid fell upon him and his family—-now, Dongyul manages to kill them. First, however, he is determined to finish the Jang family, and his main target is Jang Eunjoo—-who is the sole heir to Jeongnam’s company: Aviation Enterprise.

Eunjoo was done singing—- "I miss you so much, Kang-min-ah; I wish you were still with me," she uttered. Then, suddenly, someone began clapping—-he came out of hiding, startling her a bit; "How long have you been there?" Eunjoo implored. "Long enough to hear you sing that beautiful song," he replied.

"You must've heard wrong—I don't sing," Eunjoo chuckled—- "Yeah, let's assume; a spirit was singing, Jang Eunjoo," he said. "How do you know my name?" she asked—- "We have English, Chemistry, Art, and Music together," he uttered—- "Of course, genius Eunjoo—besides, he's the popular university heartthrob Lim Seung Hoon," she muttered.

"Okay, I got it, Seunghoon—you don't need to give a whole documentary," Eunjoo said—- "I'm not—if you sing for me again," Seunghoon said. "I'm leaving—-sorry," she said—- "Oh, one more thing, don't tell anyone what you've heard," Eunjoo said, making him nod. She left the room—-Seunghoon opened the door and watched her walk away from his sight—- "Why doesn't she want anyone to know?" he thought. Seunghoon decides not to bother asking her—though curiosity peaks at him to know why Jang Eunjoo didn’t want anyone to find out.

“I would help you overcome the pain of the past,” Lim Seunghoon says.
