Ina was making brownies as a surprise for his family, since he had gotten home before anyone else did and he had already finished his homework. It would be a couple hours until they got home, just enough time for the brownies to be done.
He had always loved to cook, but hardly ever got time to do it, as he and his family were always busy. He licked the chocolate-covered spoon as he put the now-empty mixing bowl into the sink for his mother, Irine, to wash later.
Ina slipped the brownies into the oven and shut it. He looked at the time. They would be done exactly five minutes before his family got home. He smiled brightly. Just enough time for them to cool down! They'll love it!
He pushed his messy blond hair out of his caramel eyes. He unconsciously bounced up on his toes in excitement like a five-year-old child, despite his age of 12.
He went to his room to read a factual book about his favorite animal, foxes. He loved how adorable they looked!

When his parents and sister finally stepped in the door, he already had had the brownies out of the oven for 10 minutes.
"Ina! We're home!" Tim, his father, called.
He ran to the door excitedly. "Hey, guys! Guess what!"
Ann, his sister, smiled. "What is it, little bro?"
"I made you all brownies! I just got them out ten minutes ago," he said happily.
"Oh, yum. I hope they're still warm," she replied, hurriedly taking off her shoes to go to the kitchen to get some.
"Sorry we're late, honey. We got stuck in traffic," Irine apologized to her son.
He giggled and kissed her cheek. "It's alright, Mama. They're still warm, luckily!"
She hugged him and then went to go get some of her own dessert.
Tim picked the preteen up, as he was skinny as a rail and reached a height of 5'1".
"Papa," Ina whined. "I'm twelve! I'm too big to be picked up like a two-year-old!"
Tim chuckled and continued to carry Ina on the walk to his study. He sat Ina in his usual chair beside his own, which was behind his desk.
"So. Ina, you know how you've been asking us about your birth family?"
Ina was also adopted. He was always thanking the gods above to have been put in such a loving family. "Yeah?"
"Well, we have decided to let you get a DNA test done. We thought you would like that," Tim said, smiling at his son.
Ina's entire face lit up. "Yes! I would love that, Papa!"
Tim nodded. "Let's join your mother and sister. I bet those brownies of yours are getting cold by now."
Ina nodded and got up. He ran for the kitchen to make sure they didn't eat all of the brownies he had made.
